Gaëlle de Surgères is looking forward to introduce you to the artist Thierry Pommerell for the opening of the QUI GALLERY located in the Rivoli Building on March 19 as of 06.00 pm.
Thierry Pommerell’s work is the result of a 10-year search and reflection on the human body. Through various media – photography, performance, sculpture – the artist’s obsession consists in reflecting the moving essence, the fragility, the instability, the breathing of the body.
Oscillating between two worlds, reality and disembodiment, the bodies are offering themselves in a hand-to-hand combat which outcome remains unknown. When putting bodies on paper and looking at them from different angles, the question of limits arises: limit of the body, of the frame, of the creating act… Limit of desire.
The vocalist Bénédicte Davin’s performance called “Gisant” and taking place on Thursday March 19 is an extension of this work. The picture fragments in “Gisant”, just as for the coats of arms – a 16th century poetic art praising body parts -, are like life recollections. They are talking with a living body which, similar to a structure, a mental skeleton, is trying to rebuild an identity.
One can no longer make out who from the image and the living body is manipulating the other nor who’s the still life of the frame.
The spectator tumbles in the reign of memory and imprint and questions oneself about the porous limit between life and image.
